October 30, 2022 - PROVO, UTAH - Smarty, a leader in location data intelligence, has been named in the Salt Lake Tribune as a top workplace for 2022. A total of 155 businesses were recognized. Smarty ranked 17th of the 76 companies with fewer than 150 employees. The list is based entirely on employee feedback surveys administered by a third-party service. The anonymous survey measures 15 cultural driving elements like alignment, execution, and connection.

In contrast to the record-breaking volume of resignations in the tech industry, Smarty’s year-over-year employee retention remains above 93%. The company credits its fun culture as a primary ingredient to its success in attracting new employees. Team building trips to TopGolf, go-kart racing, theatrical plays, laser tag, and even Disney are staples, as are the regular offsite company and team lunches.

“We are honored by the recognition as one of Utah’s top workplaces; it confirms what we’ve known for years,” shared Doug Edwards, President of Smarty. “Significant, thoughtful effort goes into creating an authentic culture that enhances communication and understanding across the organization. Our approach successfully drives individual growth, fulfillment, and excitement.”

While “Fun” is a big part of the appeal and the first of Smarty’s three core values, employees credit the other two values of “Outwardness” and “Wizardry” for why they stay with the company long-term. Outwardness is a principle taught by the Arbinger Institute for seeing people as people rather than as objects, tools, or obstacles. “Wizardry” is the term used at Smarty to indicate company-facilitated skill development for becoming the best version of oneself within current and future roles.

“Everyone wants to be seen and treated like people, not numbers. We desire an optimistic outlook, opportunities to advance, and professional development,” shared Jeffrey Duncan, Senior Technical Product Manager and 11-year Smarty veteran. “We need realistic expectations and new challenges without soul-crushing stress. Everyone needs validation. Fun, Outwardness, and Wizardry help Smarty deliver those needs in spades.”

In addition to being recognized among Utah’s Top Workplace for 2022 by The Salt Lake Tribune, Smarty was recently recognized among the fastest-growing companies in Utah Valley by BusinessQ Magazine. Star Wars Day

One of the most popular and successful movie franchises—by far—is George Lucas' Star Wars. The impact Star Wars has had on the culture of the United States and the rest of the world is incredible. From 1977 on, Hollywood has been producing large, fantastical blockbusters packed with practical and computer-generated special effects. Movies have started being considered based wholly on the merchandise they could sell. Toy laser swords have been selling like hotcakes, and every child finds themselves secretly trying to turn off the light from their bed using the Force.
Dealing with Address Data from Multiple Countries

In our recent webinar, we hosted Jeffrey Duncan, our Technical Product Manager, who discussed the complexities and nuances of managing address data across various international formats. While seemingly straightforward, addresses are quite complex, especially when dealing with international data. Jeffrey highlighted the variability in address formats, which can range from the number of address lines to the order of address components, differing significantly from one country to another. For instance, while a US address typically follows a structured format, addresses in countries like Germany or India can have a completely different setup, impacting data entry and management.
